If mental stresses are weighing you down and you’re considering taking your first step towards healing, hypnotherapy is something that has likely come up. As a beginner, you probably have a lot of questions about hypnosis for healing, mind control and more.
As a certified hypnotherapist, at Hollybush Hypnotherapy, I’ve put together this handy guide to address the basics of hypnotherapy for beginners like yourself. I’ll walk you through what you can expect from your first session of hypnotherapy with me, so you feel comfortable and confident.
Let’s take a look at what hypnotherapy for beginners is all about!
Hypnotherapy for Beginners – What You Need to Know Before Your First Session
As an expert in the field, I’ve often seen that many people use the terms hypnotherapy and hypnosis almost synonymously. While there’s a fair share of overlap, these are two different concepts.
So, what is hypnotherapy?
It’s a type of psychotherapy that makes use of hypnosis techniques to offer a well-rounded approach to overcome various problems. As a proficient clinical hypnotherapist, I use this method of therapy to help you overcome issues like insomnia, depression, anxiety and more.
How it Works!
The Introduction
Before the session begins, one thing you can be absolutely sure of is that you will be in complete control. As your hypnotherapist, I’ll merely serve as the metaphoric tour guide as I work with you to navigate through the issues you’ve been facing. You’ll be in the driver’s seat and you dictate the direction of your session.
With hypnotherapy, I will simply help you reach the destination you already have in your mind.
Once you’re seated comfortably, I’ll start off with some questions to understand what you want to achieve. It’s important that you answer every question honestly about your fears and worries and dilemmas. Hypnotherapy will work best for you if you are your authentic self.
For a fruitful discussion, it’s best to share all the necessary and relevant information that will then help me lay the foundation for the rest of the session.
Once we’re on the same page, we can then proceed to transition to the next stage of our session – the induction!
The Induction
This is where I work with you to get relaxed and comfortable as I guide you to a state of hypnosis. You will be aware of your surroundings and will be able to hear and process everything that’s being said.
There are several ways to go about this process, the approach I choose to proceed with usually depends on the information and feedback you’ve shared with me in the introduction paragraph discussed above.
The first part of the session is used to explore the kind of stimuli and language you respond to the best as my client. As I try to figure out which approach works best for you, this might take a few minutes.
Every session is catered to the bespoke needs of the client which means there’s no one-size-fits-all approach to hypnotherapy. Once the induction is complete, I then proceed to gauge the extent of the state of your hypnosis with a series of short tests.
In some cases, I might proceed to take you into an even deeper level of trance if required.
The Therapy Session
This is where the actual “therapy” or “change work” begins. Guided by the answers you gave at the start and addressing the changes you wish to make in your life, I will start working on your problem areas.
The hypnotherapy we use for beginners such as yourself will strictly concentrate on the issues you’ve discussed with me. This means you won’t walk in wanting to fix your eating habits and leaving with a strong urge to overcome your phobia of public speaking, for instance.
What I mean to say is, I follow a strict code of ethics. If you come to me seeking help to overcome anxiety, you will walk out with solutions directed at tackling the cues that make you anxious in the first place.
As a skilled hypnotherapist in Blackwood, you can rest assured that you’re in caring hands; I will work with you to introduce specific changes in your subconscious mind that help bring visible improvements in your lifestyle.
Moving to the State of Wakeful Awareness
As your hypnotherapist, I gently guide you to come out of your state of restful trance.
When you’re in this state, it’s a highly relaxing and peaceful experience, so much so that you might want to stay right where you are. This is where I help you to slowly come out of it, as you steadily transition to a state of complete wakefulness.
Once you’re fully awake, your mood will be assessed and carefully observed. You are guaranteed to feel relaxed as the therapeutic process takes root and starts to manifest. If you have any questions about your experience, you can discuss those with me at this stage.
After the Session
Depending on the intensity and magnitude of your problems, I’ll suggest more sessions while also providing you with some tools and techniques that you can try by yourself at home.
I will also walk you through the session, and the treatment carried out so there’s absolute transparency in the process. It’s extremely important for you to consciously do any post-therapy work I ask you to do for consistent and visible results.
I recommend going through a couple more sessions and then you can take an educated decision regarding how you wish to proceed.
