What is Hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a deep state of relaxation which brings together the conscious and subconscious mind into a state of trance, which the therapist guides you into using the sound of their voice. Trance is not the same as sleep. It is a natural, relaxed state which we can find ourselves in when listening to music, watching the television or carrying out an everyday task. Clients find that they relax their body and their mind, leading to a calm, enjoyable experience.
Can anyone be hypnotised?
Nobody can be hypnotised if they do not want to be. You will take on board only those suggestions which you wish to accept and you will disregard anything that is of no relevance to you. Your subconscious mind knows what you want and what is good for you. You cannot be made to say, think or do anything you don’t want to.
What if I can’t relax?
Despite initial nerves, clients find themselves to be nicely relaxed, even after the first session. There is no right way or wrong way. You do not have to stay completely still. It doesn’t matter if you have to scratch your nose, or cough, or wriggle. However, most people find that they relax and lay calmly throughout the session. Either way the outcome is always beneficial.
How many sessions will I need?
The number of sessions varies depending on the individual client’s needs.
This is part of the discussion that will take place at the Initial Consultation, however the client is usually the best judge of how they are doing and we will review progress at each session. Perhaps the main exception to this is Smoking Cessation, which is 1 session. Other treatments such as the Gastric Band Hypnosis tend to be around 10 sessions and simple phobias may just need 3 sessions.
